Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Power Gifts
1 Corinthians 12:9-10
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles
1 Corinthians 12:9
9 to another faith by the same Spirit...
The Gift of Faith is a special divine gift which is given supernaturally by the Holy Spirit, as He wills. Those who operate in special faith, can believe God in such a way that God honors their word as His own, and miraculously brings to pass the desired result. There are various types of faith. This Is a special kind of faith that goes beyond faith for general needs.
When the gift of faith is an operation, it may be that nothing is seen at the time to confirm that the person has an answer. Therefore, special faith may carry over a long period of time.
Every believer has a measure of general faith. The gift of faith is a gift of the spirit to the believer that God can use to bring miracles. The working of miracles, on the other hand is a gift given to believers that he might work miracles through the Holy Spirit.
Example:
Any believer has general faith. Faith to believe that God will meet their needs, faith that God will connect them with the right spouse, faith that God heals. But a believer that has the divine gift of faith is able to have faith to believe in what seems impossible. They have faith that God will fulfill a need in a miraculous, supernatural way. Of course lining up with Scripture.
1 Corinthians 12:9 (NASB)
...and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
1 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
...to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit
The gifts of healings are a supernatural impartation of healing power given by God to a person through the Holy Spirit. It is God doing the healing, not the person. God has blessed Believers with the gifts of healings to serve as a witness of His restorative and healing power and authority.
The spiritual gifts of healings many times will work in agreement with other gifts of the Spirit. Many times God reveals to the person with the gift of healing, word(s) of knowledge identifying the type of healing that needs to take place. God may give a person the gift of healing and the recipient the supernatural gift of faith.
The gift of healing may be connected with the ministry of an evangelist giving an open door in their evangelistic work; as, for instance, the healing of the
father of Publius by Paul (Acts 28:8–10). Its exercise obviously attracted the attention of the people to the gospel of Christ. This was certainly true in the ministry of Jesus.
Gifts of Healings
1 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
...to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit
Notice the plural use of both the word “gifts” and “healings.” This is the only gift mentioned in plural form. Here are some explanations:
Ernest S. Williams writes: “It is reasonable to believe that God might anoint one person with faith for certain diseases, another with faith for others.”
Harold Horton asserts: “A believer possessing one or more of them will be used of God in certain cases of sickness, but not necessarily in others.”
Donald Gee varies the formula with two alternatives: “The simplest explanation is probably that there can be different
gifts for different classes of disease. … Another explanation is that the Spirit will direct in different ways of conveying
His healing power.”4 (He has in mind prayer, laying on of hands, anointing with oil, and so forth.)
There may be a differentiation between those who have the supernatural gift of healing and the various passages of Scripture that any follower of Christ can be used in healing. Scripture presents in explicit detail God’s plan for His impartation of healing to His people.
James 5:14-15
“Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up”
Mark 16:16-18
"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
1 Corinthians 12:10
and to another the effecting of miracles
The working of miracles is used to display God's power and magnificence. The work of miracles could be called the working of acts of power. The Greek word miracles is dunamis: power, might, strength, powerful deeds, marvelous works, staggering wonders or astonishments.
A miracle is a supernatural intervention by God in the ordinary course of nature; a temporary suspension of the custom order, or an interruption in the system of nature as we know it, operated by the Holy Spirit.
Every one of the gifts of the spirit is miraculous; they are all supernatural. But, they are not all the gift of working miracles. When the working miracles is in manifestation, there is a divine intervention in the ordinary course of nature. Someone supernaturally healed is certainly a miracle, but the gift of miracles is not limited to just healing.
Have the Supernatural Gifts Ceased?
There are those who are called cessationists that believe the supernatural gifts of the spirit, specifically the gifts of the Holy Sprit found in 1 Corinthians 12, 13, 14, have ceased since 70AD, or the canonization of scripture. There is no scriptural basis for this belief system. We covered this topic in great detail at Spiritual Gifts Ceased.
Cessationists also believe Apostles and Prophets of the Five Fold callling/gifts have also ceased, in spite of Ephesians 4:11-13
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors [shepherds] and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
It is time for the body of Christ within the Walls of the Church,
and the Church Without Walls to unwrap the spiritual gifts.
