Gifts of the Holy Spirit
1 Corinthians 12:1-11
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware. 2 You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed”; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 and to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.
Supernatural Gifts of the Holy Spirit
To best understand what the Gifts of the Spirit are, and the operation of the Gifts of the Spirit it is best to read 1 Corinthians 12, 13, & 14 in entirety.
It needs to be understood that the ability to operate in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit comes from the impartation of the gifts upon an individual. It is not natural ability. The are miraculous. Thus, a trained physician does not have the gift of healing, a trained professor does not have the gift of knowledge or wisdom, a linguistic expert does not have the gift of tongues or interpretation. However, any of these individuals if they are Christians may be gifted by the Holy Spirit to operate in one or more Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Any follower of Jesus can be anointed to operate in at least one Gift of the Holy Spirit. It appears by the phrase each one in 1 Cor 12:7 there is the potential of every Christian having at least one Gift of the Holy Spirit. Some believe every Christian has the potential to speak in tongues because at least three times in the Book of Acts those who were baptized in the Holy Spirit spoke in tongues, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit is for all Christians.
1 Corinthians 12:4-7, 11
4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Regardless of what gifts or callings you may have it is critical to minister with the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Sadly, there has been much misuse, abuse of the spiritual gifts, resulting in a disdain for the spiritual gifts. One of the main reasons many Christians reject some of the spiritual gifts is because of the mishandling of the spiritual gifts-throwing out the baby with the bath water.
Have the Supernatural Gifts Ceased?
There are those who are called cessationists that believe the supernatural gifts of the spirit, specifically the gifts of the Holy Sprit found in 1 Corinthians 12, 13, 14, have ceased since 70AD, or the canonization of scripture. There is no scriptural basis for this belief system. We covered this topic in great detail at Spiritual Gifts Ceased.
Cessationists also believe Apostles and Prophets of the Five Fold callling/gifts have also ceased, in spite of Ephesians 4:11-13
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors [shepherds] and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
It is time for the body of Christ within the Walls of the Church,
and the Church Without Walls to unwrap the spiritual gifts.
